ii. How Many Seconds in a Moment - Press Release

written, recorded, produced, mixed, & mastered by gerrard.

Diagnosed with Perthes disease at seven,
Gerrard spent much of his youth indoors and in a wheelchair, and music became his main outlet for self-expression. He started making beats in FL Studio at fourteen; within a year, producer Michael Uzowuru (Frank Ocean, Vince Staples) and other members of Odd Future were sharing his instrumentals on their then-private forum.

In his late teens he found a second outlet in swimming, becoming good enough to rank top 50 in the country and earn a D1 scholarship, which he turned down to focus on music. He taught himself guitar, bass, drums, cello, and piano along the way, and in 2020 moved to LA to figure out the rest. There he played in Bennett Coast's and Chris Emond's bands, where a shared love of Alex G began shaping how he thought about songwriting.

Around that time, BROCKHAMPTON's Dom McLennon shared his music, and shortly after his first solo vocal release landed on Spotify's Fresh Finds, Fresh Finds Indie, Undercurrents, and Fit Check. Outside his own releases he made visuals for Magdalena Bay, Bickle, Asha Imuno, and Dylan Brady's Cake Pop collective, produced for Johan Lenox & Rachel Prancer, and learned the film world alongside crew from A24's Everything Everywhere All at Once; all while working as a special education teacher.

ii. How Many Seconds in a Moment, releasing June 12th, is his self-produced debut album. The project came into focus after sessions with Bickle, Billy Lemos, and Chuck Sutton, built around a rhythm-first approach with atmospheric instrumentation. He shot, directed, and edited nearly every video for the project himself and made the cover art with close collaborator Lauren Kim. The album was produced entirely by Gerrard, with additional vocals & production on WYWH* by Rachel Prancer and Bickle.

It's an album about time & presence, and the ensuing emotions surrounding it. Throughout the creation process, Gerrard has found his voice as both a creative and a person, facing what it means to truly exist within a moment. Lead single "Honeyshy" opens that world by highlighting the precariousness of connection and upon release was shared by AG Club's Jody Fontaine; "Neverlet" goes deeper into attachment and the feeling of wanting time itself to stop around someone you love. "babysbreath" synthesizes a sonic thesis, drawing loveliescrushing's atmospheric shoegaze through a modern electroclash and house lens. Sonically, the record lands somewhere between Alex G's emotional directness, OPN's textural experimentation, Dijon's poetic confessionals, and the driving rhythms of early 2000s French house.
